Who is Eligible to Apply

With the Latest rules introduced with effect from October 11, 2017, a lot of individuals can take advantage of the lower threashold and apply for Citizenship.

Under the new rules, To be elegible to apply for a Canadian Citienship applicants need to meet below criteria:

Applicants must be physically present in Canada for atleast 3 Years (1095 Days)  out of the last 5 year period.

Days spent in Canada before becoming a permanent resident (as a temporary resident or protected person) within 5 years of applying for citizenship, count as ½ days, up to a maximum of 1 year.

Should have filed income taxes for atleast 3 out of last 5 years

Applicants between ages of 18 years and 54 years need to demonstrate language abilities for Speaking and Listening of Either English or French.

Additional Conditions:

Applicant should not be in Prison or  serving a sentence

Applicant should not be on a Parol

Applicant should not be charged (in trial) with a serious offence

Applicant should not have been convicted of serious offence in the last 4 years before applying.

Applicant should not be under removal order

Please note that time spent serving a sentence (including Probation) does not count toward time for Applying for Citizenship.
