Difference Between Inland and Outland Application

When sponsoring, you have a choice to make an application from within Canada or from abroad. Although the process is a bit similar, but there are some Pros and Cons of each process.

Relationship Types - Married, Common Law or Conjugal

Technically, there are THREE types of relationships that fall under spousal sponsorships. First you need to choose a correct Type. I get a lot of questions about Common Law which is a marriage type relationship without a formal marriage. You need to cohabit with your spouse for at least 12 months to claim this relationship. Conjugal is a similar relationship where in you are NOT ABLE TO Cohabit for reasons beyond of your control.

Proving a Genuine Relationship

You know that your relationship is genuine, but the visa officer does not. How to you show your genuineness.

One of the most common reason for people to be called for an interview is that the visa officer has doubts about the relationship being genuine. You need to paint the picture for the visa officer by giving proofs of continual relationship before and after marriage.

Eligibility Issues

Not everyone is eligible to sponsor a family member.

People get caught unaware of intricate laws governing sponsorship that leads to rejection. There are various government laws that bar sponsoring a foreign national. You cannot sponsor if you had a spouse within last Three years, or YOU yourself were sponsored within last Five Years. OR you have had some issues with criminality or family disputes.
